The Lord warns all families to be cautious and fulfill all family responsibilities. These responsibilities are outlined in the proclamations. These can include, presiding, providing, protecting, nurturing, and loving and caring for each other in the matrimony. In the proclamation it says that husband and wife need to work with each other as equal partners.
If there is disrespect or abuse between them it can also be considered being negligent to their family responsibilities.
In the dictionary, the word Calamity is defined as “an event causing great and often sudden damage or distress; a disaster.” I think this word is used in the last paragraph of the proclamation because the disintegration of families will affect societies more than we realize. When mothers and fathers become negligent of their responsibilities is when nations and empires begin to fall. If we do not learn how to properly interact and treat others in the smallest and most basic unit, then the world will not be able to hold its own. President Nelson has warned us that we will not be able to survive spiritually without personal revelation.
The Family: A Proclamation to the World is instruction coming straight from God. The Lord wants to save us all from this calamity we are bringing upon ourselves. So, he calls prophets, apostles, seers, and revelators to guide us in the right direction. Disintegration of families is when a family has destroyed itself and is no longer a traditional family. This could be divorce, same-gender parents, or an aborting family. The family is torn apart by unnatural causes. I think that when a family becomes disintegrated it causes insecurity, pains, and psychological traumas that are very difficult to get out of.
