Parenting according to the proclamation

Loving your spouse is looving your children, Imagine hateing the father/mother of your child. Every time you would see that child they would remind you of someone you don't love or care for. A child is a lot smarter and more sensitive to a lot more things than we are usually aware of. If parents don't love and care for each other it creates confusion and distress in the child who relies so much emotionally on their parents.

I want to teach my children to love and serve one another. As a family, I want us to have weekly service activities. It doesn't have to be anything big. It could be something as simple as paying a compliment to a family memeber, or call an extended family memeber. This will help my children become more aware of other's needs around them.

I will teach my children to obey God's commandments by living and honoring them myself. I think that establishing a family culture centered and based in Christ's teachings can help my children develop a desire to live them and anwer questions as to why we live them. Some examples of rightous family cultures include; family prayer, family scripture study, family home evening, and family service activities.

It is important to understand that parents are not responsible for their children's actions or decisions, but they are responsible in how they influence them. If a parent thinks that they are responsible for their children's life choices they may become controlling and unforgiving. I think it is similar to parent who try to claim thier children's achievement as their own. They can also claim their children's mistakes or sins as their own. Understanding that they are not responsible for the way their children turn out can be healing and encouraging.
